Valentín Carboni’s Return After His Trial At Marseille & How This Will Affect Inter’s Game

News

Inter Milan has terminated Valentín Carboni’s loan at Marseille after the 19-year-old Argentine suffered an ACL rupture.

The club confirmed the recall in an official statement, bringing his season to an early end. He has now returned to San Siro for recovery and rehabilitation under Inter’s supervision.

Carboni Joined Marseille On A Year-Long Loan Deal In the Summer

Before completing a loan move to Marseille, Valentín Carboni renewed his contract at Inter.

Olympique de Marseille secured the service of the young Argentine on a year-long loan worth €1M, with an option to buy for €35M, plus €4M in add-ons. Inter inserted €40M buyback clause, as the wonderkid had already shown what he could do last season on loan at Monza, where he netted twice and provided four assists. Check out Carboni’s senior stats below.

Clubs Games Goals Assists
Monza 33 2 4
Inter 6
Marseille 4

The young attacking midfielder had little chance to improve on that feat at Marseille, suffering a serious knee injury in October.

Carboni picked up the injury at Argentina’s training camp in preparation for the 2026 qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

He instantly left the camp to return to Marseille. Further assessment revealed he tore his ACL and needed surgery. He will likely miss the rest of the season.

How Did Carboni Fare At Marseille Before The Loan Termination?

Carboni’s time at OM got off to a rough start. A muscular injury disrupted his pre-season, making it difficult to secure a spot in Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

He made just four appearances, totalling around 100 minutes, showing only glimpses of the ‘Wonderkid’ talent that earned him his reputation.

With a long recovery ahead, OM and Inter Milan mutually agreed to terminate the loan, allowing the French club to cut salary costs while maintaining ties with the Italian giants.

Despite the brief stint, Inter remain hopeful that the €3M-a-year prospect will regain his form and reach his potential.

Road To Recovery For Valentín Carboni After Inter Return

Carboni’s recovery began after a successful operation on October 19. He took to Instagram to thank his teammates, coaches, and medical teams from both Marseille and Inter.

However, football fans eager to see him back in action may have to wait until next summer. With the season ending in May, his return may come too late.

While the timing isn’t exciting for fans, it allows injured players like Carboni to recover fully. Before his knee injury, he had a solid injury record:

  • Unknown injury: Aug 16–24, 2024.
  • Unknown injury: Sept 1–14, 2024.
  • Knee injury: Oct 11, 2024 – May 19, 2025 (expected).

With no European club matches during the summer and players unwinding and getting back into shape, football fans can also use the opportunity for new fun activities. Playing casino games is one of the popular hobbies among football enthusiasts, both during and between seasons. They can take advantage of a new casino no deposit bonus to play different games, including sports-themed titles, for free. Meanwhile, Valentín Carboni will be hoping to recover in time to compete in the next Club World Cup.

How Will Carboni Injury Affect Inter Games?

Considering Carboni was not in Simone Inzaghi’s plans this season, Inter may not miss the South American talent.

However, all parties are working hard to ensure he completes his rehabilitation and is ready to compete at the 2025 Club World Cup in June.

According to Turin-based Publication, Tuttosport, another loan deal to Marseille could be on the table after his recovery.

Based on how the last deal went and the understanding between the two clubs, no one can rule out the possibility entirely.

Inter Milan’s immediate plan signals a commitment to get the talent back to fitness and the pitch. After that, the options will be whether to cash in on their prized asset or give him time to prove his qualities at San Siro before his contract expires in 2029.

Regardless of what happens in the summer, 2025 promises to be a defining year for the young Argentine.
